Working collaboratively to update MANCAP, a key strategic plan facilitating the conservation, protection, and maintenance of Adelaide’s coastal environments
Developed in 2009, MANCAP is a conservation assessment and coastal action plan for the Adelaide coast, from Sellicks Beach to Port Wakefield Proof Range. With input from state and local government, land managers, technical experts, and the community, the Plan established baseline data and identified threats, conservation priorities, local management actions, and regional conservation targets.
Following over a decade of the Plan’s successful implementation, Green Adelaide’s Coast and Seas team engaged Nature Street Creative to coordinate an extensive review and consultation process to update the Plan. The 2023 MANCAP collaboratively identifies achievements and updates, threats and conservation opportunities, and supports strategic planning for future local management actions.
Working in partnership with Green Adelaide’s Coast and Seas team, NSC’s role in Stage 1 of the Review included:
Establishing review parameters and approach with Green Adelaide and the Coast Protection Branch (Department for Environment and Water - DEW)
Facilitating four days of internal workshops with Green Adelaide to commence the review
Technical draft writing for the MANCAP Volume 2 review (24 chapters)
Piloting an external consultation workshop with the City of Holdfast Bay in preparation for extensive agency and external consultation.
With Stage 1 completed in 2022, NSC is now coordinating Stage 2 of the review in collaboration with Green Adelaide, DEW, and nine metropolitan councils.
