Living Smart

Local people learning how to live lightly

Local people learning how to live lightly

Living Smart brings people together to develop new skills and make lasting changes to live lightly. The seven-week program covers topics of living simply, waste (resources), water, energy, transport, community, and gardening for biodiversity and food. Facilitators skilfully guide participants to learn from and support each other, creating networks of like-minded locals.

Nature Street Creative’s Claire Lock is a trained Living Smart facilitator experienced delivering courses in partnership with co-facilitators and funding bodies. Claire works collaboratively to tailor topic content based on the interests and knowledge within each group. There is a strong focus on supporting participants to take action and reflect on individual achievements or barriers to support behaviour change and positively influence societal norms.

The facilitator role also includes pre-course preparation and promotion, communication with participants, and post-course reporting and debriefing with co-facilitators and funding bodies.

At course completion, participants are energised, inspired, and ready to take the next steps in their sustainability journey at home or within their community. As a result of Living Smart, reporting has shown that 100% of participants took action to care for the environment, including reducing household waste, water, energy, and car use while increasing their community links.

  • “This course has encouraged me to make small manageable changes in my own life. This in turn has impacted my family and close friends and them to make changes too. The ripple has started!”
